Peter J. Ottowitz

Peter J. Ottowitz is a respected home safety expert, entrepreneur, and author with more than four decades of professional experience. As the founder and former owner of The Hawkeye Companies, he built one of New England’s leading home inspection firms, specializing in home inspections, environmental testing, energy audits, and senior home safety assessments before selling the company to a private investment group in 2025.

Prior to Hawkeye, Peter founded Hardwick & Stone, a manufacturer of wood and leather conditioning products and equine medicines, which was successfully acquired in 2004. Earlier in his career, he served as Manager of Field Services at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he gained extensive leadership and technical management experience.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, and an MBA from Dartmouth College. His educational background reflects a strong foundation in engineering, technology, business leadership, and strategic management. Throughout his academic journey, he developed the analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills that have guided his success across engineering, entrepreneurship, and the home inspection industry. His combination of advanced engineering education and business training has enabled him to bridge technical expertise with practical leadership, helping him build and lead successful companies while advancing professional standards in home safety and inspection services.

His extensive professional credentials include home inspection licenses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut, a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License, Infrared Thermography Certification, and numerous certifications in senior home safety, accessibility, mold assessment, radon testing, allergens, and environmental inspections.

As the author of Are Mom & Dad Safe?, Peter combines decades of technical expertise with a passion for helping families create safer homes for aging loved ones. His mission is to educate homeowners, caregivers, and seniors on practical ways to improve home safety, support independent living, and promote peace of mind for families everywhere.
